LARGE PRINT BULLETINS
are available.  Please ask an usher for one.

TODAY IN SUNDAY SCHOOL  Today’s Sunday School lesson studies “The Boy Jesus in the Temple.” Jesus is always about His Father’s business—and that business is always earning our salvation! No thing and no one can stand in His way. Consider asking, “How does Jesus show that He is about His Father’s business even at a young age? What is the most important part of His Father’s business?”

GREETER SIGN UP SHEETS are also on the entryway bulletin board.  We need January greeters!

ADULT BIBLE STUDY - We continue our journey through the New Testament letter of St. Paul to the Thessalonians. Together may we answer questions for our daily lives and our walk of discipleship.

ALTAR CARE sign-up sheets for 2009 are on the entryway bulletin board.  Sign up early and get the date you want!

THANKSto our “New Year helpers” for putting together the January newsletter!  Arlene Derksen, Bill & Harriet Harris, Pat Wilson, Leota Luhmann and Millie Eckhardt.

READINESS FOR MARRIAGE – see the new 2009 schedule of workshops on the entryway bulletin board

SNOW SHOVELING sign-up sheets are on the entryway bulletin board.  Talk to Layne Betterman if you have questions.

PARKING LOT VANDELISM This past Sunday, Dec. 28th, afternoon several of the cars of our Korean congregation had windows broken and items in the vehicles ransacked.  The police have been notified, but be aware of leaving anything valuable in your car.

MISSING Our custodian brought two large DRIEAZ  blue blower fans from his other place of employment to use in drying the carpets faster.  One of them has disappeared. If you have any information about where it has gone or who might have it, please either bring it back or let the office know what you know about it.

NEXT WEEK ON THE LUTHERAN HOURJanuary 11 - "That's the Way It Works"
Not all religions are the same. Only Christianity proclaims: "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved." - Mark 1:4-5

ON THURSDAY, January 22, 2009, join thousands of Minnesotans at the State Capitol in St. Paul at 12 noon for the MCCL March for Life.  The March commemorates the deaths of more than 50 million unborn babies killed by abortion since the 1973 US Supreme Court’s decisions legalizing abortion on demand for the entire nine months of pregnancy.  Your presence will help show elected officials and the public the depth of support for pro-life legislation protecting women and unborn babies.

A PETITION TO STOP the “Freedom of Choice Act” is on the entryway bulletin board.  This proposed federal “no limits on abortion” law would make brutal partial-birth abortions legal again; it would require taxpayer funding of abortion on demand, even when used as a method of birth control; and it would nullify virtually all state limits on abortion, including Minnesota’s Woman’s Right to Know and parental notification laws.  If you would like to sign this petition, stop by and do so.

2009 DISTRICT CONVENTION June 11-13, 2009 Each congregation is entitled to two votes at the convention. One vote is cast by the pastor, the other by a lay delegate chosen by the congregation. Our congregation needs to submit names for our Lay Delegate and Alternate Lay Delegate by Jan 31, 2009. If you are interested in these positions please speak with Bob Heyer, our congregation’s President.
Nominations for District Pres., VP, Board of Dir, and Circuit Counselor must be submitted by Feb 11, 2009.

OUTREACH - Matthew 2:1-12
The wise men were ablaze when they saw God’s star in the sky and traveled a long distance to see for themselves what God had done to save His people.  We can also be ablaze and shine like stars (Philippians 2:15) to point to Jesus, the true Light of the world.

MINNESOTA VISITING NURSE AGENCY is offering American Heart Association classes during January, February and March of 2009.  These classes are in CPR, First Aid, and Pediatric First Aid.  They are held in various churches around the metro area.  A pink sheet is on the entryway bulletin board with class times, locations and fees.

LUTHERANS FOR LIFE  "Everything created before the creation of human life was for the creation of human life. The setting God created for human life and the way He created human life and the way He continues to create human life, gives human life special value." Rev. Dr. James I. Lamb, executive director of Lutherans For Life.

OBERAMMERGAU PASSION PLAY 2010 Pastor Bruce and Ann Frederickson, formerly of Messiah Lutheran in Mounds View, are planning an exciting trip to a wonderful Passion Play in Oberammergau, Germany in June of 2010.   84 people perished after an Oberammergau villager inadvertently exposed townspeople to the Black Plague.  Disease and death quickly spread, until survivors gathered and made a solemn oath -  if God spared them, every ten years they would present a day-long play depicting the passion of Christ.  Their prayers were answered and in 1634 the famous Oberammergau Passion Play was first performed on a stage erected over the graves of the victims. Villagers continue the tradition today.  A number of people have already registered for this trip and tickets are limited.  Bruce and Ann are planning a brief meeting at their home in Blaine on Sunday, January 11, 2009 beginning at 2 p m.  Plan to join them and learn more about this exciting journey.  While it will not be repeated again until 2020, registrations must be finalized soon.  Don't miss it. Contact the Fredericksons, 763-786-2723 or BruceF6300@comcast.net or 10003 Pleasure Creek Parkway W, Blaine, MN 55434. Join us on Jan 11 at 2 pm.
